Dr Wong was born and educated in Hong Kong.  He attended Queen Elizabeth School from 1967-1974 and The University of Hong Kong Faculty of Medicine from 1974-79.  He practiced medicine since 1979 and worked as intern in Princess Margaret Hospital and Queen Mary Hospital.  He subsequently worked in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Princess Margaret Hospital, Kwong Wah Hospital and Ruttonjee Hospital.  His field of practice include Orthopaedics, Paediatrics, Accident and Emergency, General Medicine and Geriatric Medicine, which is the final main specialty he has engaged in since 1981.

He has also worked for 1.5 years as a Family Physician in Wah Fu Estate during 1984-85, and as a honorary registrar in Gartnavel Hospital, Glasgow in 1991, Honorary Assistant Clinic Professors in HKU and CUHK, Honorary Consultant in Health Bureau, Macau SAR.

His main interests are in Geriatric Medicine, especially in Musculoskeletal / orthopaedic diseases in the elderly, neurological problems in the elderly including dementia care, stroke medicine, and Parkinson's disease.  He has also had extensive experience in organizing community geriatric services, managing healthcare organizations and other primary healthcare services.

His other interest also resides on Health Information Technology and Health Informatics.  He has been Chairman of the Hong Kong Society of Medical Informatics which he founded since 1986, President of eHealth Consortium which he founded since 2006, and Chairman of HL7 Hong Kong which he founded in 2010.

His hobbies include Yacht Sailing, Trailwalking, and Distance Running apart from many others.
